Destiny saved me, but our blood sucking political vampires killed the rest!!

Just as I was about to write this editorial, in the Times Now channel, a young man among those thousands who had gathered this evening near the Gateway Of India, said in the most unabashed manner, which typically reflected the mood of India now. He said in clear terms that he simply doesn’t understand what Manmohan Singh speaks and that he would rather prefer to die fighting a war than to die while dining in a hotel with his family. Just beside him was a placard in which was written, “A nation of lions led by donkeys”. The person stated that as a layman, he knew that there are terrorist camps in PoK, but couldn’t fathom why the Government of India was not doing anything about the issue, instead of begging to Pakistan. The man continued that a country like Bangladesh, which got its independence from India, is now becoming the biggest nemesis of India, sending Huji terrorists across the border every other day for terror attacks in Assam and West Bengal. What that young man was stating clearly indicated the present sentiments of India, which is laden with betrayal and anger. And why should it not be? For long, the self serving and spineless political class of this country has remained silent, presuming that aft er every terror attack, with time, the timid people of this country would soon forget about the same. And it is this presumption of indifferent, visionless, selfish and self-serving political leadership of this country that made them such a disgusting proposition. No doubt, the people of this country have seen enough. And with Mumbai, each and every citizen of this country feels even more cheated and betrayed. Betrayal to such an extent that in this ghastly attack, other than the invaluable lives of innocent citizens, the nation has also lost the lives of three of its brightest and most respected police officers, along with 11 others. Anger is evident, for these police officers – namely Hemant Karkare, Ashok Kamte and Vijay Salaskar – died in spite of wearing bullet-proof jackets, indicating the extent of corruption involved in the procurement of the bullet-proof jackets, and their quality, which could not even withstand bullets from a rifle!! What else does one expect from the crass political and administrative class, which has made money from fodder to coffins and from guns to bullet proof jackets!!!

In fact, reasons for anger and anguish are multifold and pertinent, and should never die down. Perhaps in no other country can the police constable of a financial capital be forced to fight with 0.303 vintage rifles from World War-II against highly trained terrorists armed with the most sophisticated AK-47 rifles. Perhaps in no other country would it take nine hours for its elite special forces to arrive for rescue operations... allowing people to die, just in the meanwhile. And all these happen because in this very country, in the name of police modernisation, state governments have looted the exchequer to buy expensive cars for charge-sheeted ministers and bureaucrats; and for some worthless and criminal Chief Ministers, who can move around with near 300-plus security personnel and convoys of scores of cars, while the citizens of India remain virtually unprotected.

No way should this anguish subside by the words emanating from the government now. Opportunistic and power hungry people who have always played the divisive games of caste, religion, populism and regionalism, are simply acting because the government itself is at stake and chances are high, that if the media and people at large reduce their pressure, the very same self-serving political class would simply allow things to mellow down and look the other way, for none of those at the helm of affairs have either the intent, courage or conviction to take the perpetrators by their horns. Our politicians have proved themselves enough. What more! As a gesture of mere tokenism, a few ministers have been asked to resign from their posts, rather than being arrested and put behind bars for miserably failing in their duties.
While I write this, I feel fortunate to be alive, for I was supposed to take a seminar on behalf of Planman Media on the fateful day of November 26, 2008. I still shiver when I recall that the venue was booked at The Oberoi Towers, topmost floor. It was on account of our CEO, Abhimanyu Ghosh, who requested me to cancel and postpone the seminar to some other later date, so that we all could celebrate his son Krishna’s (divine intervention I guess!) first birthday together on November 27, 2008 in Delhi. Today, me and my Planman Media team (who were supposed to be there on that day), looking back, feel thankful to Destiny for saving us. But unfortunately, the others present there were not so fortunate enough.

And that is the shocking reality today, that the citizens of this country are safe only by divine intervention and not by the existing shameless, blood sucking vampires in the form of our political class.

I read your article in Times and I cannot agree more. They are vampires who suck every ounce of blood out of law-abiding citizens, but let the criminals go scot-free. I cannot relate to you the many experiences that have left me bitter and made me wonder, ARE THE LAWS ONLY FOR US, THE LAW-ABIDING PEOPLE? How come they don't exist for bribe-sucking bureaucrats? How come they don't exist for the bribe-sucking, spineless politicians. Good job

PS: I first visited "arindamchaudhari.blogspot.com" and was surprised that there were no articles to comment on. Make sure you don't lose visitors to typos - consider a blogspot address that's easy to remember and spell.

This is a time when all Indians should realize that these politicians are all here to fill their own pockets at any cost, that includes the lives of the people they SWORE to protect. The example in the article about the vintage guns and not so bullet proof vests sets a clear cut image of what the system is all about.

PS: I am going to circulate this article among all I know Indian as well as non Indian and I ask all those who read this article to do the same.

Sir

Just now I read your article in Deccan Herald and I simply agree with each and every word. Really painful to know that bullet-proof jackets are not actually bullet-proofs!! There needs a serious restructuring of the infrastructure but I really wonder WHO HOW ?!
God has plans so thanks to Krishna's birthday saving you all.

I fuly agree with your views. The minister should have been arrasted instead of allowing them to simply resign and run away after sucking public money.

We the Indian should form a energetic/ knowledgeable / dynamic middle age and youngsters to take care of our country.

Dear Mr Chaudhury,I have learnt that you admired Gandhi and Gandhigiri and mocked Netaji Subhas Bose for creating war-cry.So why don't you try to convince the terrorists not to kill us by offering them roses. With all your wisdom you admired the guy for whom country was divided and for his 'Ahimsa' millions of people were killed by violence. The separation of India was caused by the greed of politicians.Still now it is sucking India. The one country India was divided into two/three parts and started fighting like cats and dogs.It would have yielded much greater result if we could follow the other fallen hero Netaji instead of Gandhiji for whom western media advertises continuously.
I read your article today in Dinamani. Its true.Politics spoiling our nation in every division of the country.....

really shame on us for this; here indirectly everyone of us are responsible for the incidents happened around us, may be it is with respect to terrorism or something else.. we the fellow Indians must think a lot about the country instead of delivering a strong slogans after facing an shocking incidents, Indians are more stronger with respect to unity than any other, yes we showing our unity without respect religion and colour. but we are not acting positively towards our democratical system, shame on us, why because every thing happened with respect TO a democracy based country is only because of its selfdemocracy. its A time, to build a new walls to protect the democracy(given cracks because of polluted politics), its a time to make polluted politics free INDIA...
so plz and every Indian must think as an constructive Indian instead an emotional Indian.
AND ALL MAKES US TO RULE OUR OWN BEAUTIFUL COUNTY SO THAT NO BLOOD SUCKING POLITICAL VAMPIRE BORN IN THIS LAND.

sir,
Is there any way to save/
All are blaming other for many things. anyone trying to do diffrent? you could do something you are able to do, but you know that it is easy to blam someone for something but it is hard to do so good work. We have not a single national leader with ideology.

aamitkishore@yahoo.com
No hope from present political leaders. I think, Democratic setup only for politicians not for people. We have no power to call-back our elected representative. Peoples of Representative Act suitable to politicians that's permit elected representative by gaining less than 50% of total electorates. What a mockery of 'People of Representative Act.'
Your article is really passionate and I share your feelings. And thankful to god that you are saved of this tragedy.
Corruption in Indian society has grown like a deadly cancer. Corruption is there everywhere top to bottom. common man believe that everything in this country can be bought with currency, be it integrity of judiciary, bureaucracy and the elected goverments. It is easy and convenient for any forces who try to weaken this country using this cancer for their advantage.
Enemies of this country are cleverly using Indian men, money and machinery against India thru terrorism and they are the clear winners in this game.
Weak leadership and corruption is biggest problem we are facing now and so there should be more action from the people to make the required changes in the society.

Its a fact that, the reaction time is more that what it should be,proably because of long formalities before they enter in to action. more so before taking every decesion, the politicians always think pros and corns to analyse how much does it effect their vote bank. thanks for such thaught provoking article.

I read your article in The Times and I totally agree with you in this matter.
The only thing these politicians are good at is "just talk and do nothing". I mean, what good has anyone done to our country till now?
Are we a developed country - No? Are we a safe country - No? Do we respect other religions - No?
For any question related to development of this country we have an answer as NO..!
We should be blaming ourselves for trusting what ever they talk in election times and then what they get - 5 years of freedom - 5 years more to spoil this country.
Enough is enough and being responsible citizens of this country we need to do something about it.
The day of the blasts i saw a news channel where celebrities were asked to give their point of view and from then i just have this thought in mind
"What will we get by just talking - will the dead arise or would the situations change????"

After the attack, I am yet to see a blog/mail that mentions the police or people affected in the CST attack. All media is focusing on the TAJ, maybe because it is more photogenic? or more hi-fly?
Further, why degrade the army and special force members by offering cash awards. They were just doing their duty. Are we trying to get more guys to protect us by laying down their lives by making these posts attractive. I feel that all the money offered should be used to beef up security all around and ensuring that such things dont happen again.
will the rooms destroyed at the taj be named after those valiant officers and others who died to save others ????

HATS OFF TO SHAH RUKH KHAN FOR STANDING HIS GROUND! IT’S NOW TIME TO END THIS HOOLIGANISM ONCE AND FOR ALL AND MAKE MUMBAI A UNION TERRITORY!

SRK is great! Not just because he is such a star, but because he genuinely is the most amazing person and has such a logical and sound brain. And now the entire nation idolizes this man all the more because he has become a symbol of sheer courage as well! And I think all it required was someone like him to stand up coolly and say, “This is not right, I’ve done nothing wrong and I won’t apologise.” When he was saying this, one could almost see the schoolboy rebel in him – not ready to cow down to an illogical man trying to act as the school headmaster. I am writing this editorial immediately after coming back from a show on NDTV 24x7, which was on the topic, “Is Sena the real power in Mumbai?” I was one of the speakers. It was sad to see Uddhav Thackeray, who was another speaker in that show, sticking to a stance that cannot be defended by any sense of logic. When questioned on the show by the NDTV anchor on his tendentious comments against SRK, Uddhav’s reply was that one should ask th

It’s important for Anna to become more flexible and respectful towards the democratic process, to give a bigger thrust to his movement

I was too young then to really remember it all; but I have heard from many people that the mass protests generated by the arrest of Anna Hazare are similar to the uprising called Total Revolution led by the late Jaiprakash Narayan in the early 1970s. In fact, it was the Total Revolution and the chaos that followed – and a historic blunder by Indira Gandhi – that led to the imposition of the Emergency in India in 1975. Many people are comparing today’s situation to the Emergency days. The people of India are so fed up and so disgusted with corruption and our rotten and corrupt system that the wave of protests we see is hardly surprising. I have often publicly called India not a democracy but a demonocracy where crooked politicians and their criminal cohorts are openly plundering the nation; well aware that a dysfunctional judicial system will allow them to get away. In almost all cases, they have actually got away and have hence acquired the arrogance and swagger of pirates who know

Don’t see “Slumdog Millionaire”. It sucks!

A phony poseur that has been made only to mock India for the viewing pleasure of the First World!! The emperor’s new clothes! That’s “Slumdog Millionaire” for you… Five minutes into this celebrated patchwork of illogical clichés and you are struck by the jarring dialogues. The cumbersome delivery in a language which doesn’t come naturally to most of the actors sounds like someone scratching on walls with one’s finger nails; it ruins the possibility of a connection… Had this film been made by an Indian director, it would’ve been trashed as a rotting old hat, which literally stands out only because of its stench, but since the man making it happens to be from the West, we’re all left celebrating the emperor’s new clothes. The film borrows an undoubtedly interesting narrative style – from films like “City of God” – but then uses it to weave in a collection of clichés from the Third World’s underbelly for the viewing pleasure of a First World audience. The real slumdog in the movie is not
