GIVE BACK CHILDHOOD TO CHILDREN

No child should need to risk their lives to get educated.

In the name of EDUCATION, Can we stop TORTURING little kids, please? Here's some bitter truth about the education we give and why our kids NEED NOT RISK their lives for that.

It's been beyond painful to see my 9-year-old nephew (he turned 9 on 21st June and I told him this article will be his birthday gift) sit in front of the laptop for hours during the Lockdown. Why this torture? So that schools can get the fees on time?

Schools and colleges do require funds to run, I realize. So, reduce costs and request parents to pay part fees this year or the government to step in and support. But why make little children go through this pathetic torture??

In any case, our education system and schooling have failed us miserably. Instead of doing fakery like they did with me for 13 years of my school life, it's really time to change our education system. And if you can't; Then at least during these extremely tough times around the globe, where many leading universities and schools and even countries have already announced that there won't be any physical classes this year - please forget about the SHAMEFUL GREEDY idea of opening up of schools and colleges. Also, forget about pushing little kids to study for 4-5 hours in front of LAPTOPS.

There are too many parents who worked hard for years to limit screen time for their children, not so that GREEDY schools in the name of education make them go through this torture.

In any case, all the worthwhile things they teach in terms of academics throughout one's school life could be taught in about 90 min a day * 200 days a year * ten years. That's a crazy 3000 hours!!!

In 1000 hours topmost universities finish post-graduation programs!! That's where real education should happen and happens. That's where we need to give 1000 to 3000 hours to make the researchers, carpenters, artists, musicians, scientists, economists, historians, masons, farmers, electricians, social workers etc. That's education.

I can't even imagine taking 3000 hours to teach a couple of languages (which is more or less learnt at home), basic maths till compound interest, basics of science, arts and commerce... And to imagine schools actually take 5hours* 200 days* 13 years = 13,000 hours plus tuitions and homework another say 7000 hours out of childhood, to KEEP YOU LITERALLY UNEDUCATED! What a shame.

In fact all that you learn in your entire childhood can be taught @1 hour a day, 200 days a year * five years ie 1000 hours. Post that all you are taught till class 12th can be taught in one hour a week in another five years ie 250 hours. That's 1250 hours in total. Make it 3000 as the above calculations. Fine. But let children breathe. Let them follow their passions. Grow up and become whatever "THEY WANT" to become. Let them become HAPPY. GOOD. HUMANE.

What a shame it is that after so much teaching, there's hardly one teacher per school who thinks that his responsibility lies beyond the course, and is about making good happy human being and changing lives. Or spend at least 5 min in every class teaching life lessons that are important, then teaching the worthless course.

And the most imp teacher in schools who is responsible for a good two hour class in the entire 13 to 17 years of the education system - the biology teacher -  who is supposed to explain evolution, is generally a dumb religious buffoon. So somehow he teaches the donkey brained chimps to human beings story without any conviction. Not how humans evolved out of fish over the last 1 billion years, and story of evolution from a unicellular organism to multicellular one in the first 3 billion years of the existence of the earth.

So even those key two hours of learning a school fail to impart. So go to any school WhatsApp group of 50-year-olds and take a test on this, and you will see 95 per cent of them would be completely vague. And max says we evolved out of chimps like dumb fools.

And after giving the test like fools ask but then how do chimps still exist if they converted into humans? So they end up supporting the foolish guys who say we didn't evolve out of chimps rather 10k years back we invented head surgery. Our schools have created generations of fools and religious bigots.

That's the crappy truth of our teachers and schools. From where I learnt nothing at all in life and most likely most of your children are learning nothing, barring rudimentary few hours worth basic stuff.

And what's the debate about board exams. In any case there should be no judgement of students till class 9th of any sorts. And all sorts of standardized exams should be banned. To make children score more we don't teach them poetry, we don't let them read enough books or inculcate that habit, we don't let them spend time following art and music and the worst of crimes we don't let them play to their complete heart's desire.

In Finland, schools are just 4 hours a day including lunchtime, endless playtime and without any homework or exams till the age of 16. No one is ranked, given marks, compared ever. And school starts at the age of 7 not a criminal age of 4. Needless to say, schools are neighbourhood schools and publicly funded with 33% of your daily nutrition requirement coming through free food in schools. And children enjoy their childhood. And yet they are right at the top of all education parameters in the world.

By having our current system of education, we make teachers the villains. No one grows up hero-worshipping teachers. Teachers are the villains and at this point of time during the pandemic the most exploited lot, in addition. Having to do a crazy amount of work with huge pay cuts.

The government must immediately step in and stop this torture, scheming, forcing and exploitation. At least during the pandemic. There should be no more than 1 hour of online classes for children till the age of 13 and about 90 min for those above 13. Let them read good books instead. Give assignments on book reading if at all you want educated kids.

The government must help give back childhood to our children.

HATS OFF TO SHAH RUKH KHAN FOR STANDING HIS GROUND! IT’S NOW TIME TO END THIS HOOLIGANISM ONCE AND FOR ALL AND MAKE MUMBAI A UNION TERRITORY!

SRK is great! Not just because he is such a star, but because he genuinely is the most amazing person and has such a logical and sound brain. And now the entire nation idolizes this man all the more because he has become a symbol of sheer courage as well! And I think all it required was someone like him to stand up coolly and say, “This is not right, I’ve done nothing wrong and I won’t apologise.” When he was saying this, one could almost see the schoolboy rebel in him – not ready to cow down to an illogical man trying to act as the school headmaster. I am writing this editorial immediately after coming back from a show on NDTV 24x7, which was on the topic, “Is Sena the real power in Mumbai?” I was one of the speakers. It was sad to see Uddhav Thackeray, who was another speaker in that show, sticking to a stance that cannot be defended by any sense of logic. When questioned on the show by the NDTV anchor on his tendentious comments against SRK, Uddhav’s reply was that one should ask th

It’s important for Anna to become more flexible and respectful towards the democratic process, to give a bigger thrust to his movement

I was too young then to really remember it all; but I have heard from many people that the mass protests generated by the arrest of Anna Hazare are similar to the uprising called Total Revolution led by the late Jaiprakash Narayan in the early 1970s. In fact, it was the Total Revolution and the chaos that followed – and a historic blunder by Indira Gandhi – that led to the imposition of the Emergency in India in 1975. Many people are comparing today’s situation to the Emergency days. The people of India are so fed up and so disgusted with corruption and our rotten and corrupt system that the wave of protests we see is hardly surprising. I have often publicly called India not a democracy but a demonocracy where crooked politicians and their criminal cohorts are openly plundering the nation; well aware that a dysfunctional judicial system will allow them to get away. In almost all cases, they have actually got away and have hence acquired the arrogance and swagger of pirates who know

Don’t see “Slumdog Millionaire”. It sucks!

A phony poseur that has been made only to mock India for the viewing pleasure of the First World!! The emperor’s new clothes! That’s “Slumdog Millionaire” for you… Five minutes into this celebrated patchwork of illogical clichés and you are struck by the jarring dialogues. The cumbersome delivery in a language which doesn’t come naturally to most of the actors sounds like someone scratching on walls with one’s finger nails; it ruins the possibility of a connection… Had this film been made by an Indian director, it would’ve been trashed as a rotting old hat, which literally stands out only because of its stench, but since the man making it happens to be from the West, we’re all left celebrating the emperor’s new clothes. The film borrows an undoubtedly interesting narrative style – from films like “City of God” – but then uses it to weave in a collection of clichés from the Third World’s underbelly for the viewing pleasure of a First World audience. The real slumdog in the movie is not
