HANG KASAB TILL DEATH. ON 21ST FEBRUARY 2011, THIS MUST BE THE VERDICT

As I went through the shocking footages of the hotel cameras which reveal what went on inside the Taj on 26/11 (made public now for the first time as an exclusive by The Sunday Indian – read the cover story that follows), my blood boils once again in rage. Rage against Pakistan, rage against our spineless government which allowed it to happen and though there can be no justice at all for what happened, I demand that Kasab be hanged immediately.

Shocking and Exclusive from the The Sunday Indian:
26/11 snaps from hidden cameras inside Taj.

I fail to understand what more does the Government of India need to punish Ajmal Kasab, who was caught red handed, causing mayhem in Mumbai on 26th of November 2008. More so, at a point in time where across the globe, governments have a zero tolerance policy towards terrorism! Such is the extent of intolerance that if on one extreme, the United States of America, under the guise of global terrorism, carried on their hidden agendas and devastated Afghanistan and Iraq, then on the other, Israel, without batting an eyelid, launches its offensive on the least instigation from Palestine. Why go so far? Look what the Sri Lankan government did to LTTE – an outfit which had earned the reputation of being the most dangerous terrorist outfit in the world was uprooted in a matter of days! And here, first we allow Ajmal Kasab and nine others to reach the shores of our country freely, we also allow them to mercilessly take invaluable innocent lives and destroy valuable property, we manage to kill nine of them, finally catch one of them and then keep him guarded for 646 days, without any punishment for reason that fails any sane mind! Specially as the memories of that unfortunate day gets revised through the following pages.

For the records, Ajmal Kasab’s trial ‘officially’ began on the April 15, 2009 and the final verdict is tentatively slated to be announced on February 21, 2011 - a total of 646 days. And mind you, if at all the verdict is passed, about which I have my doubts! What is most insane is that unlike other nations, where in similar cases no one bothers about witnesses or evidences and verdicts are straightaway passed with no consideration whatsoever, in our case, not only did we have enough evidence including the CCTV footages that caught Kasab live in action and live telecast of his movement across all news channels, but Kasab himself accepted all the charges brought against him in the court - and yet the Indian government chose to run a trial on him, instead of hanging him straight!! Furthermore, we have all circumstantial and forensic evidences to prove the same. Yet the Indian government manages to let him go unpunished for all these days!! And like every Indian, I ask: for what has he been kept alive? Is it to make his defence lawyer the most sought-aft er criminal lawyer of India? Or is it to create a poster boy image out of Kasab? And if this is the intention of the Indian government, then I must say that they have been fairly successful!!! Otherwise, where else on the earth does a terrorist, who shot down 166 innocent people and was part of a full-fledged terror attack plot against the Republic of India, not only go unpunished till date but is being served mutton biryani, is given access to newspaper and is provided with his choice of clothing - the latest fetish being wearing a Kurta Payjama. And mind you, it is from the same government who serves other inmates substandard food, two sets of black and white striped dresses and dump them in the middle of most inhumane conditions and that too on account of petty crimes! Also not to forget, that it is the same government, who in the name of bulletproof jackets, served death coffins to its forces, which went on to kill one of the few capable police officers in the same attack!

Honestly, keeping Kasab alive speaks volumes about the indecisive and spineless attitude of our government. And it is not that our government has proven this just to its own citizens. The message has, more dangerously, been conveyed to various terrorist outfits who, by now, know very well that the Indian Government does not have any spine, no matter what they do! And what is worse is that by keeping Kasab alive, the Indian Government has potentially increased the probability of another 26/11, or another IC-814 horror! With all my intention of reiterating, it was again owing to the let-go attitude of Indian Government that the Indian Airlines Airbus A300, en route to Indira Gandhi International Airport from Tribhuvan International Airport on December 24 of 1999, was hijacked to Kandahar with 178 people on board. Th at hijacking led to the release of terrorists like Maulana Masood Azhar (played an active role in the 2001 Indian Parliament attack and later was part of the 26/11 plot), Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh (who went on to murder Daniel Pearl) and Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar (upon release, he started recruiting and training terrorists in Pakistan-administered Kashmir), in lieu of the hostages! Contrast this to what happened during the Moscow theatre hostage crisis, also known as the 2002 Nord-Ost siege! And the way the Russian government’s no nonsense attitude towards terrorist demands set an example in front of their countrymen! Same was the case with the 2004 Beslan school hostage crisis.

Keeping everything aside, it is needless to state that when it comes to national security, nothing else can be a priority for any government! But in this Kasab episode, it is also intriguing to analyse the economics of keeping Kasab alive for so long! It is estimated that the Maharashtra government has spent a whopping Rs 31 crore in the first one year of Kasab’s arrest. From creating a bullet-proof cell in the JJ Hospital premises (which was never used) to visits by around 24 doctors for his various ailments in the period of just one year - the Maharashtra government did it all! As if this was not enough, this celebrity-terrorist was provided with an imported van costing Rs 6 crore - which got stolen as soon as it reached India. Up and above all this, the Mumbaikars, who had already had enough on account of the 26/11 mayhem, had to bear the delay in newly proposed water pipelines near Arthur Road Jail, which cost BMC another Rs 12 crore while the rerouting of the monorail dented the government’s coffers by another Rs 44 crore – all this on account of security reasons! A back-of-the-envelope calculation indicates that around Rs 100 crore was spent in just one year on Kasab, who came in and destroyed public property worth Rs 41.72 crore! In short - Kasab made our government spend more than what he destroyed. In simple words, Kasab’s upkeep roughly equals to two 26/11s (and counting...).

In this entire Kasab saga which has gradually unfolded, it has been proven again that at best our government is good at condemning the assailants, facilitating the martyrs, compensating the victims, addressing the nation with a false hope and if by chance some terrorist gets arrested – holding him alive till another terror negotiation takes place. And if by chance the negotiation does not happen then there is red carpet waiting to be rolled out to join the Indian Parliament!!! It is just that Ajmal Kasab is from Pakistan. Otherwise, he had all requisite credentials to contest the next elections (just in case we are forgetting Abu Salem)!

I won't waste any more words. Just read the following pages and realise for yourself that a verdict to hang Kasab is the least we can do for those who lost their lives during 26/11. On February 21st the verdict must be “Hang Kasab till death”.

In India we go by the book, by the system to get justice. Keep in mind this all system in place is not efficient with cases going on for years and most times even forgotten and this suits our corrupt politicians. And now Kasab is getting benefited from this. What a shame. As mentioned in the article like Russia we should have a no-nonsense attitude towards terrorism. Extract all information we need from Kasab and just hang him.

Sometimes you are very liberal/left in your views! and now you sound like cousin brother of Narendra Modi

If we hang Kasab wothout trial, what is then wrong with encounter killings that happened in Gujarat
Will hanging Kasab solve all the issues!

This post may bring in rave support for you. but if u ask me this is right, I would disagree

what is the point of having a trial in case which committed in front of so many people and has so many witnesses? simply waste of public money. this is like giving out a message "Anyone is free to do anything in our country and we will let them go scot free" Even the mastermind of parliament attack is still alive and languishing in our jail.........

Go back to school and learn that Judiciary powers is not with Executive or Legislative. You are hiding behind the word Govt. Govt consists of all these powers devided. If you can decide to kill Kasab without trial then one day they will kill you also without trial after accusing you of so many miosdeeds. Is that not what they are doing to A Raja on an imaginary 1,75,000 Rs loss which he anyway could not have auctioned

In India, whenever a culprit is caught, he has to be tried by the IPC. There is no denying the fact that everyone must be given a chance to prove himself innocent, but the law should not be extended to those on whom the world mourns. In the extremist countries like Russia and China, or staunch democracies like USA, whenever such kind of a person is found alive, the world never gets what happend with him later. But in India, I'm feeling very shameful to say that, whenever such person is caught, he is tried. I ask why he must be tried ? Just ask whatever information he has and cut and throw him in any dog's house as food. Do we want to show the World that we are very law-following people ? Why cannot we challenge our law ? Is there any need to follow it, if someone is seen directly doing all this non-sense acts ? I think that IPC only needs good ammendment for these issues. You can take example of David Headlley, who has been caught by USA. There is so strictness followed that, even his real pic is not broadcasted on the media. Well, at last I want to say that hanging is not the punishment that can be given. Punishment should be such that no one in future will even dare to contradict it. He should be tortured like how Hitler did in a concentration camp and that too should be forcasted LIVE on the world media. Then only there will be some improvement in the condition. Jai Hind.

Reply to Hamid. You missed something ( probably out of pity) They also killed Gandhiji. What you said about muslim boys is correct. They will definitely feel alginated. But it the job of the society to wash the wounds of such people. It should also be known police personal are not very highly educated or Knowledgeable. In UK police were not allowed to carry gun and when they were allowed they shot dead a negro woman who was hiding below the cot. The police were actually searching their son. So democracy does not answer. We the democratic people should understand and be tolerant towards such mistakes. We have the option to change the Govt. every five years We have to vote intelligently and then only such mistakes will be minimized. Eliminated? High hopes.

Reply to Raju Neera. Govt can take immediate action only if law is ammended with 2/3 majority that parliment can over rule judiciary and sentence or punish anybody. It will be immediately stayed and rejected by judiciary as it goes against fundamental principles of constitution.
If stii let us assume that such a law is passed and by mistake parliment gets 2/3 majority then who and all will be hanged is a question.
Why dont you go to scholl and leran your lessons properly

He should be punished the same way he killed the innocent persons.

He should be shot dead on the same Gateway of India in front of all, and the video should be telecasted to international news channels.

crores have been spent on keeping this terrorist alive it can happen in India only. i think AAM-AADMI in our country is not worried about whether crores are spent on him or that he should be hanged without delay.life in our country is very cheap.even if a few lacs die nothing will happen the people will soon forget it. Kasab may remain alive for many years to come it can also happen in our country. we ourselves have to take the blame for electing such a govt.which is mired in corruption. how can the corrupt minds take right decisions?

i am not going to understand why we are giving him five star treatment in jail when we know that he is main culprit and how many proves we have against him still he is alive ? hypocritical situation really one side government want to show that we care for india and we will always take strict action against those who are terrorist but infact they do not care .and it is only waste of time when gov demand for anderson and other culprits .when we can not take strict action agianst a terrorist who are in our hands then why showing such duel standard to people that we will take strict action and will hang them who are not in our hands .

They have been raising and it is being replied. But they are incessantly raising it outside. Without any reason. Everything is not decided by Govt. there is rule of law and it has to be followed. If they don’t agree they should make constitution amendment. If they don’t have the majority they should clearly say what amendment they want and what they will move when in power. As it is it is not in the hands if this Govt. to kill Afzalk baig. When his turn comes he will hang. Manmohan cannot arbitrarily decide who should hang and when. If he can he will hang you and me as it is happening in Dictatorial countries. In dictatorial countries it is the Crooks who become dictator and ordinary people suffer.
mamta said…
mghariharan thanks for the replay sir and yeah you are right that law is also important.i will not say much but one more thing i want to say is that when those people are not ready to follow the rules then why we should follow the rules for them when we have all evidences, videos, witnesses etc.against them.
mamta said…
one more thing is that our constitution really need some ammendments because people will break the rules and will do all bad things against country and it's people till then they know that there is no one who will punish them for their bad deeds.this is only the problem people do arong and then many years cases goes on and on .first of all in session court then they will go in high court when they know that they are culprits and then if high court also declare them culprit then they will go in supreme court.and they always want to escape because they know they have power and money.we really need amendments in our constitution .because people will do crime till then they know they will always escape.

To Mamta. The problem is who decides. The man in power? definitely not. The people. The fact that Raja took 1,75,000 crores bribe is a blatant lie told by congress to win In Tamilnadu election. See the timing. This was done in 2008. In 2009 Govt of India files FIR against the deal. In 2010 CAG claims wrongly 1,75,000 crores was lost. Everybody jumps up. What was opposition doing till now. Exactl 1 month before election Raja is arrested. He could not have auctioned the spectrum. How can you give 50 % on low fees and next 50% on very high fees and expect them to compete. It is like saying 5000 autos will cost 1 lakh and next 5000 autos will cost 10 Lakh and expect all of them to charge same amount. If 1,75,000 crores was paid it cannot be from company account. Banks wont give loan so where did this money come from. Last point if they had auctioned it for 1,75,000 crores was collected legally by auction the charge per call will be Rs. 50. Can you believe this? But the so called educated people of India belive all this nonsense. Please wait till April when TN election is over and then see. We can talk on this.
Just a Joke. ( Now do you still belive Kasab is Pakistan?)
mamta said…
to hariharan sir kya sir you are speaking like mr kapil sibbal.and i do not think congress told a lie instead they were trying to save him(a.raja).if it was not so then why they give him that post again to him in u.p.a 2nd?.and you are saying that why opposition was not speaking then.i think opposition demanded j.p.c because they wanted quick action and if parliament sessions were not going on last time then may be it is only because no one want to take action and every party want to prove that they are not wrong.

Judiciary is necessary... no one should be punished without a trial! having said this i dont mean that the trial should become a mockery... WIth so many evidences against the terrorist, a case of this intensity should be tried and closed within a week...
I completely agree that the delay is unjustified and completely intolerable..
Kasab should've been tried and evicted by now !
Our judiciary system has become an object of global mockery now!! Kasab's trial should've been over long back, we should've been celebrating his first death anniversary by now!
mamta said…
to sharadha absolutely right and agree to you and now after yeterday's verdict he is ready to appeal in supreme court.we really need to change this rule because the people who are culprits misusing this .
Anonymous said…
To Mamta. I had given lots of details please refer to it. 1.75,000 Crore gupla is a blatant lie. It is not possible to pay so much bribe by any body. If you need to generate so much money you will have to Take bank loans, nobody sits on so much cash. Again 2009 itself Govt has filed FIR against the deal. Bribes are paid without any traceability. In Boffors case alos0 though cheque nos with amount and account name etc. were known but nothing was traceable. It is really foolish to imagine that people taking such huge bribe will leave evidence.
As You don’t know about Tamil Nadu I said wait till the results and then speak. For last 40 years Congress has not got entry into that state. This time they will come into ruling. These are strategy which will become clear when Election nears. See the timing.
Regarding Kasab it is foolish to for educated people to ask somebody should be killed. Final question who will sign that paper. You are not telling that. Many times decisions in Supreme court has overruled High court decision. In all death cases mercy petion has to be scrutinized. In Kangaroo courts as in Dubai 8 Indians have been convicted for death sentence. The whole world will be watchingwhat we are doing.
The decisions in courts can be speeded up. But it is not that easy because main delay is because of availability of good judges. Over and above this there are many accusations against Judges. This is not case justice delayed is justice denied. If Kasab rots in Jail for some more years it does not affect us.
I leant in 8 th. standard that in democracy 100 guilty men can roam on rad but 1 innocent man must not be punished. So due peocess of law has to follow. Nobody, repeat nobody can hurry up with any vested interest (in this case sheer Hatred).

Its good to see we are celebrating democratic spirits with a terrorist as our hero.....Our judiciary and law enforcement agencies had enough time to prove his guilt....just think it takes 2 yrs for such a blatant act of his to get proven.....only GOD can imagine how much time lesser mortals will need to get justice.....with this act we are sending wrong signals to the society as a whole....we are promoting acts like GRAND CORRUPTION, HOSTAGE, TERRORISM...and d list continues....d more we linger more people like manu sharma, a raja and others hog the limelight.....is this is what aam aadmi's govt and India shining all about??? THE TIME TO TAKE A STAND IS HERE AND UNFORTUNATELY IT IS RUNNING OUT QUICKLY

Reply to Saptadeep: I really don’t understand this. Why Kasab should be killed at all, and also why this hurry. We have many number of criminals in our country. Why not kill all of them first. Same with Afzal Baig. BJP is always clamoring for his death. What have they got to say about the criminals who are ahead of him what about them. Do you want to punish criminals or do you want to kill Muslim criminals, first and not bother about others. What is. BJP’s answer? North Indians are illiterate mass. Are they also uncultured? How can ethical questions be answered so flippantly? If some body answers these questions I can continue.
mamta said…
to hariharan sure sir i will give you answer very soon.and about your previous comment too.and i am agree to suptadeep.this all will continue till then people have power and they know that they will do all bad things and because of power and status no any law and nothing can punish them.it is tragedy of our system and i do not know when all these things will change.

I feel the Case has taken quite a lot of time for a crime committed against the nation and its people.
Enough is enough policy should be in place for such a case which was a open and shut case with enough evidence available on day 1.
He should be shot at Gateway of India on a live telecast, And it should be with a team of snipers with one bullet shot at him every 15 mins so that eh too realize the pain he inflicted on his victims and also for the future terrorists to see what will happen to them too... If swift and painful punishments are not inflicted then we would always remain victims of terrorism.Let the punishment be brutal especially for those who killed mercilessly.
It definitely should be a Firing Squad and that too a slow one. It should be a painful death for him in the end.

Hi mr. hariharan, I never said people shouldn't be punished.....they should be, inline with the crimes commited by them....what Kasab did was too much even for a liberal democracy like ours to accept....If we don't give an exemplary punishment (as I had earlier said) it makes a mockery of the judicial system(for common Indians like us) and bolsters India's soft state image....Afzal Guru too should be punished & so should be the Samjhauta express Hindu terrorists....Sir there is no religion here....its bout u reap what u sow.....& it's sad...with all ur experience u r taking it in a different ditection all together... why should we even consider such terms....does the colour of terrorism whether green, saffron or whatever changes d real nature of the crime, the sorry lifes it claims....sir U r living in a very puratinical world where u still think hindus want muslims kiled & viceversa.....& unfortunately its this feeling that u live with create d differences & not by hanging Kasab....again u create d rift between we Indins vide their geographical locations.....aren't we educated enough to stop beleiving this crap.....Democracy is votebank & if we too fall prey to silly instigation with all the colour India has...we will implode in seconds.....

Sorry I am Late. I studied in N India and am aware of N Indians and their goodness. Point is Why Kasab and Aafzal Baig.? There are almost 26 Crimanls who have been sentenced to death. And are awaiting Death penalty. All you people are saying only about kasab. Are you atleast aware of what are the crimes done by other people. What you are all suggesting is…
Typically BJP will send one RSS criminal (Most of them are criminals say like Dara singh Who killed an Australian Priest and his two children while sleeping in a Van They did not even have a home) in to the same cell as Kasab and just kill him. Then of course they can say he is a great patriot and came under emotional stress and he did it so acquitted. As they claim about all their actions. Killing Gandhiji, Breaking Masjid, Bombing Samjautha express. Reaction to Godhra -killing 3000? Muslims etc. All are great patriots. In Loksabha when Babri masjid was being discussed without wasting even 1 second all BJP was shouting Vajpayee zindabad for 2 Hrs. Non stop. This is their way of debating. ( Now you understand the meaning why I call N Indian uncultured. No cultured man is coming and opposing this and many such actions will be continued to be done by BJP.

Reply to mr.Hariharan.

You said that 175000 crores is a blitent lie told by congress.u also said that if 2G sprectrums auctioned according to norms then call charge should be 50 rupees.
I cant understand why r u saying that.no matter whatever the call rate should should be.there es only question of big loss to nation.u cannot compare national property with call rates.telecom companies ruduced their call rates not just because of competition but also because of low fees paid by them for licences.they nothing doing social work by reducing call rates.they forget their bussines responsibilities towards government and society.call rates are not more important issue.such wastage of national property es concernable issue.
Govt tried to reduce fiscal deficit.but how can it possible when total corruption in a year es estimated about half of it,s annual budget.one thing u must have to accept that if 175000 crores es a lie told by congress, then the real price should not be less than 70 - 80 thousand crores rupees.
We dont to understand how telcos pay their sprectrum fees if sprectrums were allotted at the market price.

To Dev380. Nation cannot prosper without the people prospering You will this when China collapses like Russia. Nobody under competition can afford to make loss. at best they should break even. You may be anti congress but fail to understand that they are intelligent and use all such people's fallibility conveniently. The point is nobody will give 1,75000 crores when many have already got the spectrum when it was allotted under BJP rule. How will they compete with them? You are just writing sentences without understanding it. What you need to to understand is the timing They waited for 3 years and then just before the election they are destroying DMK party. Today Raja is in Jail for what no evidence has been produces. They have tapped conversation and are slowly leaking it and damaging the electoral prospects. For 40 years Congress has not been able to enter Tamil Nadu. Now BJP and RSS are ensuring that Congress will enter into TN assembly as ruling coalition. Don’t accuse me of Pro DMK. I am a brahmin and no brahmin will support DMK. But what congress is doing to DMK they have done to BJP, Mulayam, Lalu et all. Wake up else we will have 200 years of congress rule.
2/3 majority you did not read my comment even then Supreme court will nullify it as it is against the fundamental principles of our constitution

why Indian goverment is so helpless to give a punsihment a person who is reponsible for the brutely killed people in 2008..... why we always want to be a saint....are we dum, deff or are we blind can't see what all is happeing wrong to us..... now when laden is killed we are celebrating his death inseated of being ashamed the killer/sinner kasab is still alive in our country... and our corrupted government has spent 31crore rupees on him.... do we have that much of money to spend of an atankwaadi..... can't we spent this money to poor people of our country who all are living in below the poverty line.... kya yaar kya bakwass law hai humare desh ka........
I don't give a shit about politicians, This man has been caught shooting civilians at point blank range and I can't believe it’s been 2 years + and the Indian govt is still ready to feed him three times a day. F****g hand him or give him to the public, I am sure they'll know what to do... What a waste of time.. I hope he doesn't win a ticket to stand in the elections with his identical but probably a bit less profile friends.. What a joke!!!!

I can understand your anger and contempt for Pakistan, for i am indian too and nothing infuriates me more than to see the very reason for the deaths of so many of my people, captured and yet alive and comfortable. Yes, our taxes are paying for his security and I completely agree with all the other things you said. However, reading your blog, I noticed that you haven't got your facts straight, sir.
The reason for the apparent negligence towards bringing him to justice is not that the government (Legislature, Executive, Judiciary) or the IPS, is lazy.

The reason, instead, is political. Sarabjit Singh is an Indian citizen currently facing a death sentence in Pakistan for allegedly causing major bomb blasts in Lahore that killed 14 Pakistani people. To pakistanis, and understandably, he is a terrorist. This is known to the whole world. Therefore, openly expressing our contempt for Pakistan, and calling it a terrorist nation, at this stage, would make us sound only hypocritical and ignorant. Also, discreetly, the Indian and Pakistani govts have had an agreement: india will not hang kasab if pakistan will not hang sarabjit. India plans to bring sarabjit into indian soil where he can be tried and, if found guilty, convicted. Pakistan wishes to do the same wth Kasab.

Hence, the best solution i can think of, is hanging kasab; and to think of sarabjit's resultant termination as inevitable and collateral damage and move on. Let Sarabjit's nationality not eclipse what Kasab did to us.

HATS OFF TO SHAH RUKH KHAN FOR STANDING HIS GROUND! IT’S NOW TIME TO END THIS HOOLIGANISM ONCE AND FOR ALL AND MAKE MUMBAI A UNION TERRITORY!

SRK is great! Not just because he is such a star, but because he genuinely is the most amazing person and has such a logical and sound brain. And now the entire nation idolizes this man all the more because he has become a symbol of sheer courage as well! And I think all it required was someone like him to stand up coolly and say, “This is not right, I’ve done nothing wrong and I won’t apologise.” When he was saying this, one could almost see the schoolboy rebel in him – not ready to cow down to an illogical man trying to act as the school headmaster. I am writing this editorial immediately after coming back from a show on NDTV 24x7, which was on the topic, “Is Sena the real power in Mumbai?” I was one of the speakers. It was sad to see Uddhav Thackeray, who was another speaker in that show, sticking to a stance that cannot be defended by any sense of logic. When questioned on the show by the NDTV anchor on his tendentious comments against SRK, Uddhav’s reply was that one should ask th

It’s important for Anna to become more flexible and respectful towards the democratic process, to give a bigger thrust to his movement

I was too young then to really remember it all; but I have heard from many people that the mass protests generated by the arrest of Anna Hazare are similar to the uprising called Total Revolution led by the late Jaiprakash Narayan in the early 1970s. In fact, it was the Total Revolution and the chaos that followed – and a historic blunder by Indira Gandhi – that led to the imposition of the Emergency in India in 1975. Many people are comparing today’s situation to the Emergency days. The people of India are so fed up and so disgusted with corruption and our rotten and corrupt system that the wave of protests we see is hardly surprising. I have often publicly called India not a democracy but a demonocracy where crooked politicians and their criminal cohorts are openly plundering the nation; well aware that a dysfunctional judicial system will allow them to get away. In almost all cases, they have actually got away and have hence acquired the arrogance and swagger of pirates who know

Don’t see “Slumdog Millionaire”. It sucks!

A phony poseur that has been made only to mock India for the viewing pleasure of the First World!! The emperor’s new clothes! That’s “Slumdog Millionaire” for you… Five minutes into this celebrated patchwork of illogical clichés and you are struck by the jarring dialogues. The cumbersome delivery in a language which doesn’t come naturally to most of the actors sounds like someone scratching on walls with one’s finger nails; it ruins the possibility of a connection… Had this film been made by an Indian director, it would’ve been trashed as a rotting old hat, which literally stands out only because of its stench, but since the man making it happens to be from the West, we’re all left celebrating the emperor’s new clothes. The film borrows an undoubtedly interesting narrative style – from films like “City of God” – but then uses it to weave in a collection of clichés from the Third World’s underbelly for the viewing pleasure of a First World audience. The real slumdog in the movie is not
