Pakistan : The real rogue nation and why India should not trust America at all

Lest we forget, not very long back, Pervez Musharraf, former president of Pakistan told in an interview to CNN, “I think now, frankly, he [Osama bin Laden]
Osama Bin Laden
Osama Bin Laden
is dead for the reason he is a kidney patient. I don’t know if he has been getting all that treatment in Afghanistan now. And the photographs that have been shown of him on television show him extremely weak. I would give the first priority that he is dead and the second priority that he is alive somewhere in Afghanistan.”

Cut to 2011, Osama bin Laden was hunted, and killed, not in any remote hideout in any tribal area of Pakistan but in Abbottabad, which is just a few kilometres away from the Pakistan Military Academy and merely 60 miles from Islamabad. So much so, the entire region is known to be a hotspot and boiling epicentre of terrorists, particularly al-Qaeda. This March, an Indonesian terrorist, Umar Patek, having links with al-Qaeda, was captured from this region. He was the one behind the Bali bombings and was an important agent of Jemaah Islamiya Tahir Shehzad (an al-Qaeda facilitator) who was also spotted in the same region.

The series of incidences and the proximity to Islamabad and Pakistan Military Academy suggest nothing else but how the Pakistan government always knew about the whereabouts of Osama and also provided him a safe haven. Otherwise, how else could have Osama stayed safely right under their nose? In spite of his members being found and killed, he never got spotted. It is normal military and anti-terror routine to sanitize the vicinity of such strategically sensitive locations and check for other such terror elements, even after a single capture. Moreover, the military academy near Osama’s hideout was visited just a month back by the Pakistani military chief General Asfaq Parvez Kayani. All these clearly indicate the fact that the Pakistani government always knew about Osama, and similarly they know about all such other such extremist leaders and groups, about whom they habitually and perpetually feign ignorance.

And it is not just about al-Qaeda or Osama, but even masterminds like Abu Zubaydah (found in safe house in Faisalabad), Ramzi bin Al Shibh (key facilitator of 9/11, caught in Karachi) and Khalid Shaikh Mohammad (cornered in Rawalpindi) were all hunted down in Pakistan. Call it coincidence, but all these terrorists were found not in any remote locations of the Afghanistan- Pakistan border, but in urban cities of Pakistan. Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar was captured on February 8, 2010, from Karachi while so many more were captured in Quetta, a prominent city in Pakistan. Not just this, WikiLeaks has time and again provided information in terms of how Pakistan has gone about harbouring terrorists! It has pointed out that a Pakistani general Hamid Gul was linked with al-Qaeda operatives. And to hit the final nail on the coffin, on May 4, 2011, WikiLeaks revealed how Pakistan’s security services tipped Osama whenever US troops approached and “smuggled al-Qaeda terrorists through airport security” to ensure they escaped capture.

When it comes to India, even the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), known for their terrorist attacks on Mumbai in 2008, are still active in Pakistan. Almost a decade back, the TIME magazine reported that the Pakistan Army through its 12th Infantry Division aids and funds members of LeT and also provides fire cover during infiltration. In December 2001, the Indian Parliament was attacked by a well trained set of terrorists, funded by agencies within Pakistan. Later, it was confirmed that the Inter Services Intelligence agency (ISI) was the one funding the attack. The July 2006 terror strikes in Mumbai local trains were executed by SIMI, Lashkar-e-Taiba and ISI. Even the July 2008 attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul, which killed 58, had ISI involvement as per a New York Times report and WikiLeaks. The terror group SIMI, also called the Indian Mujahideen, which was banned in 2001, has been active with the support from al-Qaeda and other extremist outfits based out of Pakistan. The icing was when Ajmal Kasab was captured alive in the November 2008 attack (which killed 130 people), that confirmed Pakistan’s complete involvement. Even after all this, Pakistan has maintained their hypocritical lip service towards handing over Dawood Ibrahim and terrorist leader Masood Azhar to India.

Osama Bin Laden
Lines about Osama bin Laden are seen at the new World Trade Center. Laden was killed by US special troops in Abbottabad

All of this clearly indicates that Pakistan has outgrown into a real rogue nation and is increasingly becoming a threat to global security, and India in particular. And this is exactly where we need to realize that the enemy is not just Pakistan but America as well. They have killed Osama because Osama dared to attack them only. Otherwise, one must never forget that Osama was created by the Americans to destroy the former USSR. It is common American practice to use such elements to destabilize countries.

From using Osama against the USSR to killing presidents of neighbouring countries to putting ruthless dictators in countries of strategic importance for their own gains to bombing countries shamelessly for oil, the American establishment has done it all. What they are doing right now in Libya is the worst possible act. They are taking revenge on a 40-year-old issue and settling scores with Gaddafi for having united the OPEC nations then and for having raised the oil price – something which resulted in the massive transfer of wealth from the Western nations to the Middle East. Today, in a totally undemocratic manner, America is bombing that nation and killing people for no reason but oil. The heights of it is that all this while, they knew Pakistan is the nation which is hiding Osama and supporting his terror activities; yet, since they need to use Pakistan against India, they have not been acting against the nation. They have just been cleansing it of those terrorist elements who are potentially dangerous to US – but still not declaring it a terrorist nation, at a point when the reality is very clear now. Pakistan is the terrorist nation number 1 in the world today. Such is the sham that even during the presidential address, Obama maintained that Pakistan was cooperative – while the truth is that the US didn’t even inform Pakistan of the operations, knowing fully well that they would then shift Osama away.

No doubt, the Americans have done a great job in killing Osama – for their personal interests – but getting too carried away about their deed will be only too foolish. The Osama killing has revealed only two key things. One, Pakistan is without doubt a rogue state harbouring terrorists and the most dangerous country in the world – for no country can be more dangerous than a country that could provide shelter to Osama for more than five years while acting as an ally of America. And two, America – that still supports such a rogue state and pampers them only for use against India – can’t be trusted any more. From nuclear plants to defence deals, India needs to stop selling itself to Americans and take a clear stance against Pakistan and against any country that provides direct and indirect support to Pakistan – America being at the top of that list.

Author perhaps forgot to inform readers that US first got lead about presence of OSAMA in this building in Aug 2010 & has not justified why it took them 8 moths to act.

first of all, we are not a competition for USA. Pakistan has been harbouring terrorists for a long time now, even before Osama attacked USA. If India has to stay secure from Pakistan sponsored terror, then India will have to fight its own war against terror. Discussing US policies or strategies will not yield any benefits to India. India will have to devise a strategy of its own to counter Pakistan's destructive plans towards India. India may not be a strategic ally to US in its war against terror but India can always convince US against Pakistan with some political will power.
Author says is true...America a nation always encourage and pour water(money) for terrorist to show their power to international community. India denying relationship for pakistan and showing friendship to USA...Real contradiction...we need re-think our policy on selling nuclear and the relationship.

Sir,wonderful article.I too believe it is both the nations-Pakistan:shelter to terrorism and America:state for dictatorship who are spreading nuisance in all the worst ways they can.

In times as such it is wise to follow Bal Thackeray's leadership. Join China, and the world will be in our hands. No doubt, Obama has done this just a year before the Presidential elections in 2012 in order to hold on to White House for another 4 years. Hats off to Obama. He truly is the most shrewd and cunning President in the history of USA. Hail Dictatorship!!!

Mr choudhury is absolutely correct, but i must say he should find out who are the american agents sitting as cabinet ministers or decision makers in this government. We are dealing with notorious thugs as our masters in the central Govt.

The perfect Anatomy!Superb analysis! But how long can USA take the law in its own hands and get away with the offences it makes? I have great regards for president Obama, for his sincerity, straightforwardedness, personality and his principles. He is a Mahatma Gandhi fan and doesn't beleive in violence, respects the women, loves the children. But recently I read some articles, where he too succumbed to the US pressure in executing the operations and playing diplomatic.May be,this is a part of their politics or whatever, but I wish he had spoken the truth about Pakistan's terrorism without any self interest;would do some good not only for the US but also for the whole world, and that's the duty of a great leader like him and our expectations from a strong yet kind hearted president of the most powerful country of the world.

Here, we should also think about our enemies'(not oly one) growing power.Actually we are encircled by or enemies. This govt is good for nothing in any thing. I dont know why our foolish people have elected them for a second term... In each and every field they are useless... They are not bothered about our country and people. If they dont bother why should contest elections and looting and money!!! Atlast they will make us shameful.

The noise and voice of the author is very clear and everyone echos the same. But the answer to the proble is not outside, it is rather inside. As Indians, we lack in vision, constructive nation building and keep blaming the politicians and government servants. As an invididual, did we ever do respected the other Individual on the street. In less than a second we get into a dog fight, we bribe for our benefit, we break laws and we tolerate the neighours pain.. politiicans are just a sample from the bigger population. Dogs can not elect Lion as leaders.. Unless we the people change and willing to sacrifice our current benefits, the country can not be respected anywhere in the world. As long as I am not killed, robbed, etc.. I am happy..PLEASE WAKE UP AND CHANGE. I do not agree with the author on the USA stand.

U.S does whatever they thinks as theri National Interest. While Indian foriegn policy always goes in confusion manner since independence. Simple example is the Chin-tibet issue. On one hand india was friend of China & other hande india was giving refugee ti Dalai Lama. We need to think practically no ideally . You can be etiher one side.
It looks to me every Inida PM wants to get Nobel Awards. Same Nehry was tryign to get on the Tibet issue.Indira on the 1971 shimla aggrement. Even the so-called Natinalist pasrty of Inida under Vajpayess regimes did had Agra,Lahore talks. I donot understand why bus & train was strted with Pakistan when nothing was changed after the Kargil & parliament attacks. Similalry now Manmohan wants to get Nobel award. This govt also started cricket diplomacy with pakistan even when nothing has changed after mumbai attacks. Inida foriegn plocy needs to be practical. Always the Natinal Interest should be cosnidered & not the International commuinity. If ur strong then every one respects you.Simple example obama got nobel award simply becoming first black president of U.S. I always praises U.S whatver they does is for their Natinal Interest. Similar China,Russia,U.K ,Pakistan does. Why not India?

america is not going against pakistan because they need pakistan to leave the afghanistan..if pakistan does not cooperate with the U.S there is no political solution for U.S.THAT IS WHY AMERICA NOT GOING AGAINST PAKISTAN.but how you are saying U.S is not going against pakistan to use them against india?

America can do anything & get away with it because they have a strong leadership. but after Indira Gandhi we never had a strong leader who can stand up to the world. we only have politicians so we can never hope to get Dawood Ibrahim or any other terrorists holed up in Pakistan we have still not brought to justice people who attacked our parliament who are already in our custody so how can we expect our leaders to bring people to justice who are not in our country.

a nation consist of so many tye of people.some may be terrorist some may be corrupt, some may be murderers and some are great and good people.they are in that way because the situations made them.and here i am not justifying their killing.... yes may be being a terrorist or murderers affect other people, but just because of that we should not call or accuse the whole nation with the big words like ROGUE.in pakistan there are some good people, and there are people trying to eliminate terrorism, other wise why do you think zardari has to explain to the parliament and people, and why their media is creating a scene out of it.
it is somewhat analogous to the situation in our country(india) like, the corruption.but indeed there are good people trying to eliminate it.
so would you call our whole nation a corrupt nation...calling a whole nation rouge is absolutely wrong.

THE Amerikan attack on Afghanistan, Iraq & shows its supremacy over the world politics. When it's for their cause(Amerikans),they just need no evidence to bombarde a city or even a nation.Amerika encountered down its most wanted man in Pakistan & when India calls for an action or extradation of its most wanted men residing in Pakistan along with enough evidences then pakistan quotes to be a pak-saaf country.

Amerikans did not bothered to even bring it to the the notice of the host before such an encounter with Osama Bin Laden but when its India to talk of such an action we need to confront amerika first & then Indian Government summons the list of its most wanted men. It seems we are rewarding them with a certificate of being a terrorist nation.

The Indian Government triggers off the issue at intervals when there are any major terrorist attacks. There had been no costant efforts to pressurize the Pakistani Government in the wake of the world.

The Indian Government has always been busy playing defensive to the blame game politics of the opposition.Hence, such issues are not roared in one voice.

Pakistan as a polity has always had existential problems with India. And India is almost a maniacal obsession for them. As a country that has a deep inferiority complex continues to perceive humiliation at the hands of Americans (with Osama's killing and the we dont care what you feel kind of drone attacks occuring everyday), it is only to be expected that will want to give vent to their frustrations and target India. It is necessary for the Indian polity to maintain high vigil and preparedness for a fitting response in case of a Pakistani mis-adventure.

Talks and dialogues hold no relevance with the Pakistani establishment and we need to shed our ambivalent, pussy footed approaches in our communications and actions. Show of strength in official and informal engagements will be only true deterrence.

Mr A.Chowdahry why US alaways target the Middel East to end their reigem, why not Somalia, from most of the Terriost group are attached, just becauce of oil. Why can't they announce Pakstain as terroist country when every one knows that is the safe haven for Terroist,& running the terriost campfrom his soil, because he don't want to lose his wepon market.

The reason why India has to be pro-USA is simple... and its right above our head...China. The article did not stress that and the intricacies of the region and for that is incorrect.

America is not our enemy or a friend...its strange bedfellows out of circumstance. And that (China) is precisely the reason why USA still supports Pakistan and likewise India.

a country is a universal power not by its arms and weapons but by its decisions taken at the hour f action and standing by it strongly.India has everything in terms of men, money n machine but not able to utilise it just becuz there could not be any solution if one person is workin for the country n the other is busy in lining thier pockets.
How could we eva think to remove international terrorism when we r not able to tackle terrorist activities inside r country. We r expecting powerful stand against terrorism from those politicians who themselves r responsible for creating naxalism in India.
We can not blame U.S for our handicappedness.Atleast they r workin fo thier country either by being straightforward of by diplomatic but wat is actualy important is they kicking out the threats to thier country.
And Indians actualy need to understand that only the fittest survive in the end. So, we need to get rid of our spineless diplomatic policies, need to be independent and recognise our actual enimies that are inside our cuntry.A COUNTRY STRONG INSIDE IS A COUNTRY STRONG OUTSIDE.

america says world terrorism, which actually means terrorism against USA only , it is just a word terrorism, whenever it comes to india as victim and pakistan a culprit usa has always taken side with pakistan.
it event went to measure that pakistan didnt have nuclear bomb until atal bihari vajpayee manly action nullified americas claim.

unification of kashmir with pakistan is extension of jinnah dogma. if pakistan was seperated from india without referundum why should be there referundum about kashmir that too only in kashmir !!!!!!, mostly populated by muslims

there should be referundum again for pakistan and india which has never happened , pakistan was result of failure of gandhis non voilence and jinnahs bloodthirsty direct action.

how come anyone forget diego garcia.

all that america earns from india gives it to pakistan !!!. this is a fact.

HATS OFF TO SHAH RUKH KHAN FOR STANDING HIS GROUND! IT’S NOW TIME TO END THIS HOOLIGANISM ONCE AND FOR ALL AND MAKE MUMBAI A UNION TERRITORY!

SRK is great! Not just because he is such a star, but because he genuinely is the most amazing person and has such a logical and sound brain. And now the entire nation idolizes this man all the more because he has become a symbol of sheer courage as well! And I think all it required was someone like him to stand up coolly and say, “This is not right, I’ve done nothing wrong and I won’t apologise.” When he was saying this, one could almost see the schoolboy rebel in him – not ready to cow down to an illogical man trying to act as the school headmaster. I am writing this editorial immediately after coming back from a show on NDTV 24x7, which was on the topic, “Is Sena the real power in Mumbai?” I was one of the speakers. It was sad to see Uddhav Thackeray, who was another speaker in that show, sticking to a stance that cannot be defended by any sense of logic. When questioned on the show by the NDTV anchor on his tendentious comments against SRK, Uddhav’s reply was that one should ask th

It’s important for Anna to become more flexible and respectful towards the democratic process, to give a bigger thrust to his movement

I was too young then to really remember it all; but I have heard from many people that the mass protests generated by the arrest of Anna Hazare are similar to the uprising called Total Revolution led by the late Jaiprakash Narayan in the early 1970s. In fact, it was the Total Revolution and the chaos that followed – and a historic blunder by Indira Gandhi – that led to the imposition of the Emergency in India in 1975. Many people are comparing today’s situation to the Emergency days. The people of India are so fed up and so disgusted with corruption and our rotten and corrupt system that the wave of protests we see is hardly surprising. I have often publicly called India not a democracy but a demonocracy where crooked politicians and their criminal cohorts are openly plundering the nation; well aware that a dysfunctional judicial system will allow them to get away. In almost all cases, they have actually got away and have hence acquired the arrogance and swagger of pirates who know

Don’t see “Slumdog Millionaire”. It sucks!

A phony poseur that has been made only to mock India for the viewing pleasure of the First World!! The emperor’s new clothes! That’s “Slumdog Millionaire” for you… Five minutes into this celebrated patchwork of illogical clichés and you are struck by the jarring dialogues. The cumbersome delivery in a language which doesn’t come naturally to most of the actors sounds like someone scratching on walls with one’s finger nails; it ruins the possibility of a connection… Had this film been made by an Indian director, it would’ve been trashed as a rotting old hat, which literally stands out only because of its stench, but since the man making it happens to be from the West, we’re all left celebrating the emperor’s new clothes. The film borrows an undoubtedly interesting narrative style – from films like “City of God” – but then uses it to weave in a collection of clichés from the Third World’s underbelly for the viewing pleasure of a First World audience. The real slumdog in the movie is not
